What does IoT Cloud Server mean?

When developing the IoT hardware and software, one does not need to worry about setting up any servers or configuring networks or deploying databases as it is possible to use standard Virtual Private Servers (VPS). A VPS runs with its own operating system; it allows its customers to have superuser-level access so that they can install software that runs on the OS. As these are software-defined, it can be easily created and configured. Most IoT cloud server providers like Amazon or Microsoft Azure, provide a web-based user interface to manage the server. The panel offers easy access to services such as the installation of the OS, etc. This process helps speed up the development process while also enabling users to cut down on development costs drastically.

The Purposes of an IoT Cloud Server

The IoT servers have different purposes, like administration, monitoring, data gathering and analysis. They are completely modular, based on open-source enterprise platforms that provide the capabilities that are needed for the server-side of the IoT architecture, to connect to devices. The data that is transmitted through the server gateway is processed and stored securely using big data analytics. This data is then used when performing intelligent actions on our devices, in essence, making them ‘smart.’ Reliability is another aspect of IoT servers, being vastly more reliable than traditional servers due to the sheer availability of servers. If and when there are problems with one server, the resources will automatically be shifted to another server which will take the place of the malfunctioning one.

Servers like the WSO2 IoT server function as a complete solution, enabling device manufacturers and enterprises to manage devices, build applications, secure their data and devices, manage events and visualize sensor data scalably. These servers also offer enterprise mobility management solutions which address the challenges faced by enterprises today in the mobile computing scenario.
