Application software can be categorized into three disparate classes: systems software, programming software and applications software. These applications are task oriented and come in various types, which includes database programs, word processing, web browsers and spreadsheets. It is also known as productivity programs, since it enables end-users to complete tasks, such as creating documents, spreadsheets, databases, sending email, designing graphics, and even playing games.

Generally, system software leverages OS, servers, software components, programming software, and device drivers to write a program. On the contrary, applications software is built for a specific task, for instance a calculator or a word processing application which help in creating a doc. By leveraging the capacity of a system, application software helps in manipulating text, graphics and numbers.

Word Processing Software: Simple and flexible

The advent of word processor has overshadowed a popular statement “pen is mightier than the sword”. With the in-built features such as editing and formatting, spelling and grammar checkers AutoCorrect and more, end users can effortlessly create memos, faxes and letters. On top of that, word processor is widely used to generate reports and personalized pages on the web. Some of the renowned processing software includes Microsoft Word, Lotus Word Pro and Corel WordPerfect.

Web-based App: Helping IT Work Well

Web-based app is a suite of software that can be accessed through the web browser. The uniqueness of web-based app compared to normal software is that the software and database reside on a central server rather than being installed on the desktop system.

The app capitalizes on special web sites such as application service providers or ASPs to provide access to the application program, along with a minimal fee.

Web applications also offer a set of graphic illustrations that includes clip art drawings, diagrams and photos, with which users can make their content look more attractive. End users can also choose other features like portions of documents that can be removed from one item to another. From handwriting recognition to spelling checker and task panes, web based applications spans it all to make creating content an easy process.

Spreadsheets: Streamlining Digits in Digital space

Spreadsheets are mostly used to streamline, analyze and keep a track of numerical data such as financial reports and budgets. They are responsible for manipulation of data and creation of workbook files encompassing related worksheets. The numeric entries can either be a number or a formula for calculating and processing information. This software is embedded with prewritten formulas to perform calculations. With its unique features and options like chart types, titles, legends and data label, the software has made the process of analyzing much easier.
